Holistic massage therapy in London
In summary, my holistic massage approach involves:
kneading and tissue work on muscles and fascia
using my hands, and my forearms or elbows for deeper pressure
with ‘passive movement’ of limbs
on bare skin with scented or unscented oil
on a comfy extra-wide heated massage table
About holistic massage
Modern western massage techniques have evolved mainly from a system developed by Swedish physiologist Pehr Henrik Ling (1776-1839). He developed a series of manipulations including friction, kneading, stroking, cupping and clapping into his gymnastic exercise system. Ling is considered by many to be the person who established what we know of today as Swedish massage.
What is referred to as ‘holistic’ massage is usually a combination of Swedish massage, deep tissue massage and myofascial massage techniques, and this is what I use in my practice (fascia is the semi-fluid matrix of thin innervated connective tissue that is throughout the body and holds every structure in place).
About holistic massage sessions with Max
With a gorgeous and nourishing warm oil of your choice, I use my hands and forearms to apply gliding strokes to your body and targeted pressure at areas of tension or pain. I also use ‘passive movement’ techniques on your arms and legs to access particular muscles from different angles and in different states of flexion and extension. The approach is to reduce chronic muscle tension and increase ease.
Receivers report feeling deep relaxation, alleviation of pain and tension, and greater range of movement.
My sessions are 90 minutes in length (£95) to allow enough time to sink deeply into the experience and draw the most benefit.
My massage table is an extra wide (32”), triple padded, high-quality table customised and sourced from the US. Most UK massage tables are 28” and many clients may feel they have to keep their arms snug against their sides during a treatment. I’m delighted to offer a table that is super comfy for all body sizes.
